The Baltimore Ravens have signed former first round offensive lineman Orlando Brown, the team announced Wednesday.
The Ravens have signed former first round offensive lineman Orlando Brown Jr. after the trade with Buffalo 27th overall pick, according to an NFL Network insider report. This will likely put the pressure on other rookies such as Okonoboh and Haskins as they try to find their way into a depth chart that has been shuffled around by Baltimore’s decision making process throughout this offseason. The Baltimore Ravens signed former first-round offensive lineman Orlando Brown, the team announced. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Baltimore Ravens have acquired offensive lineman James Carpenter to their practice squad. Carpenter was a former first-round choice of the Seattle Seahawks in the 2011 NFL Draft.
Carpenter worked out for the Ravens three days before signing, as ESPN’s Field Yates reported on October 15. He is the Ravens’ second offensive lineman today, after the team claimed former Dallas Cowboy Brandon Knight off waivers.
Carpenter joins a Baltimore offensive line that has battled with a slew of ailments this season. Carpenter has nine years of NFL experience at left guard.

Tyre Phillips, the Ravens’ starting left guard, suffered a knee injury in the team’s regular-season opener against the Las Vegas Raiders on September 13, putting him on the injured reserve list.
In following games, third-year lineman Ben Powers and rookie Ben Cleveland split duty at the position until Cleveland sustained his own knee injury against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 5. Last week, he was put on injured reserve.
Phillips returned off injured reserve this week, but he only played 10 plays in the Ravens’ 34-6 win against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Head coach John Harbaugh gave an unsettling update on All-Pro left tackle Ronnie Stanley, who had an ankle injury that forced him to miss the 2020 season. While earlier rumors indicated that Stanley will return to the Ravens later this season, that possibility now looks to be in peril, with all indicators pointing to a lengthy layoff for the 2016 first-round choice.
Carpenter adds to the offensive line’s sturdiness.
Carpenter has 121 career starts at left guard, including stints with the New York Jets, Atlanta Falcons, and Seattle Seahawks, where he was picked with the 25th selection in the 2011 NFL Draft.
Carpenter started at left guard for the Seahawks in their Super Bowl XLIX triumph against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in 2015.
He started 13 games for the Falcons last season, receiving a Pro Football Focus overall grade of 56.1. Last season, Carpenter averaged two quarterback pressures per game while only allowing three sacks in over 500 pass-blocking attempts.
Carpenter, at the very least, is a dependable offensive guard who adds depth to a Ravens offensive line that has been ravaged by injuries. Although the huge former Georgia Bulldog had to be taken off the field, there has been no official update on Cleveland’s injury, and Phillips’ limited use on Sunday suggests he isn’t fully recovered.
Despite starting at left tackle for two years at Alabama, Carpenter has never played the position in the NFL, making just nine starts as a right tackle in Seattle before switching to left guard full-time.
The Ravens are still undecided on LG as a starter.
Though Powers has filled in well at left guard for the Ravens since Phillips’ injury, his rotation with the Browns signals that the coaching staff isn’t convinced that the former Oklahoma Sooner is ready to take over as the starter.
Despite Phillips’ availability, Powers was given the start on Sunday and put forth a strong effort, allowing just one pressure on quarterback Lamar Jackson during the game.
During the Ravens’ first offensive drive of the game, he also crushed a defender, setting the way for a Latavius Murray score.
Powers totally overpowered Chargers outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu on the play, pancaking him as Murray sprinted past for the 14-yard touchdown.
Even with the highlight block, Powers might be back on the bench for the Ravens’ Week 7 clash against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday if Phillips is completely healed.
