New World’s Amazon Games is an online game service that has developed several games of varying genres. They are planning on launching their newest title with the aid of blockchain technology to bring a new level in gameplay, immersion and interaction.

After two significant setbacks, Amazon Games seems to have found its stride with New World. Is this going to be the final one? Andy Jassy, the CEO of Amazon, hopes not. He said at the GeekWire Summit earlier this week that gaming might become the company’s biggest entertainment sector – a tall order considering the billions of dollars it pours into movies and television, not to mention music.
“A lot of articles were published stating things like ‘Amazon understands how to create everything but games, why can’t they build games?’” he said. “It takes a few, or many, until you discover a hit, but they didn’t give up.” Crucible and Breakaway are two examples for Amazon, with the former being put back into beta and subsequently canceled after debut, and the latter being killed off before it ever launched.
“You’re going to have some spectacular failures,” Jassy said.
New World doesn’t seem to be one of them, but it’s too early to say if it’ll rise to the top of the MMORPG food chain; it recently had a high concurrent player count of over 900,000 over its first post-launch weekend, with a few million active players each day.
