We all know the name Luka Doncic, and we might be aware of his insane stats. But what else do you need to know about this 20-year-old rookie? Here are three takeaways from Dallas Mavericks’ 121 – 111 win over Boston Celtics featuring superstar performance by Luka Doncic on Saturday night.

After an intense game that saw the Dallas Mavericks come back from a 17 point deficit, rookie sensation Luka Doncic emerged as one of the best stories in professional basketball. Here are three takeaways from his historic performance.

The “luka doncic highlights” is a video segment of the crazy win over Celtics featuring Luka Doncic.

The Dallas Mavericks faced another difficult challenge on Saturday night, this time against the Boston Celtics, after winning a narrow victory over the San Antonio Spurs. It resulted in a fiercely fought game, with Luka Doncic’s last-second buzzer-beating three-pointer giving the Mavericks a 107-104 victory against the visiting squad.

There’s little question that Jason Kidd’s team can play better than they did against the Celtics, but they’ll take a win any day. With a 6-3 record and a two-game winning streak, Dallas is now in third place in the Western Conference.

After an exciting contest, the Mavericks will face the struggling New Orleans Pelicans on Monday night for a chance to win their third consecutive game. With that in mind, here are three key lessons from the Mavs’ recent win against the Celtics:

3. Moving ahead, the Mavericks must do a better job of safeguarding their leads.

In prior games, it was clear that the squad often followed the flow and rhythm set by their opponents on the court. However, the tide turned against the Celtics in the first half, as Luka Doncic and his teammates comfortably scored 57 points against a shaky defensive effort from their opponents.

Despite taking control for the most of the game, the Mavericks made many defensive blunders as the Celtics clawed back from a 19-point hole to get back in the game. Though Doncic’s amazing shot saved them in the end, the team would not be in such a tight position if they could prevent their opponents from mounting a comeback early on.

Indeed, the Mavericks’ ability to hold onto leads will be critical in their quest to win more games throughout the rest of the season.

2. Kristaps Porzingis’ star hasn’t dimmed totally yet.

Kristaps Porzingis has been chastised in recent years for his on-court problems and how he now resembles a shadow of his previous self. For the Mavericks, the Latvian big man is averaging 14.8 points on 35.7 percent shooting from the field while also grabbing 6.3 rebounds in four games.

Porzingis, on the other hand, showed signs of resurgence against the Celtics, scoring 21 points, grabbing seven rebounds, and dishing out a pair of assists in 28 minutes of play. Certainly, the Unicorn still has a lot of room for improvement, particularly in terms of off-the-ball mobility on the court. His rebounding prowess and shot-making ability in the paint, on the other hand, are critical assets that will undoubtedly benefit the squad in the future.

Porzingis’ performance against the Celtics may not have been ideal, but it reminded everyone that he is still a strong presence on the court and can have a positive influence on his team going forward.

1. Luka Doncic’s late-game performance has been consistent.

Following the Mavericks’ dominance in the first half of the game, the Celtics increased their efforts in the second half to deny Luka Doncic and prevent him from getting any touches. Despite having defenders all over him as the game progressed, it was anticipated that Jason Kidd would continue to throw the ball to his greatest playmaker as the game progressed.

The Slovenian star was able to produce in the dying seconds of the game, hitting a buzzer-beating three-pointer to hoist the Mavericks past the Celtics. According to ESPN, his heroic jumper on Saturday night was his third game-winning buzzer-beater of his short career, tying Dirk Nowitzki’s career total and tying for the most in franchise history.

Against the Celtics, Doncic finished with 33 points on 5/10 shooting from outside the arc, nine rebounds, and five assists. In addition to his outstanding performance, the squad was able to continue its winning run and improve to 6-3.

The Mavericks will have a difficult season as they aim to maintain their momentum and win in a crowded Western Conference. Having a dependable talent like Luka Doncic, on the other hand, will always keep the team’s winning aspirations alive, particularly when the game is on the line.
