The NBA trade deadline is one of the most exciting times of the year. With the recent success of these three teams, we can expect a flurry of blockbuster trades in the coming days. Here are three players that could be traded for big names and help their new teams make a deep playoff run.
Bradley Beal, the Washington Wizards’ star shooting guard, is currently in trade rumors. One of the most likely destinations for him would be to play with the Golden State Warriors. The Cleveland Cavaliers are also interested in trading for Ben Simmons, but it’s unlikely that they’ll get him because he wants to play for a winning team.
The season is approaching, and some of the most valuable trade chips are still with their respective clubs. Ben Simmons, Bradley Beal, and CJ McCollum have all made it through the summer. Does this imply that they will remain with their respective clubs throughout the season? Even with the latest rumors of Simmons reporting to Philadelphia, this is still up in the air.
Teams are always searching for ways to cut a deal. You can never be certain that you are secure. These three players have been discussed since the trade deadline last year. The new deadline as the season approaches will be the trade deadline. These three ideal trading situations are still viable options.
The Sacramento Kings have signed Ben Simmons.
De’Aaron Fox, Marvin Bagley, and a 2022 First-Round Pick in exchange for Ben Simmons and Tyrese Maxey
The Kings aren’t going to make the playoffs. It’s time to start thinking about what the franchise’s future holds. Despite never having played in an All-Star Game, De’Aaron Fox, the former No. 4 overall selection in the 2017 NBA Draft, has All-Star potential. Even though the Kings haven’t had a winning season with Fox, they nevertheless handed him a max deal. Both Fox and the Kings must eventually recognize that a divorce is in their best interests.
Fox is still one of the league’s fastest guards. Simmons is just a year younger than Fox. He’d provide the 76ers with the missing piece of offense they sorely need. Fox had his greatest season to date last season, averaging 25.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game. His natural position is shooting guard, something the 76ers are severely lacking in.
For the Kings, this would finally enable them to let go of Marvin Bagley and replace him with someone more valuable. Bagley is in the last year of his deal, but the Kings are hesitant to extend it at this time. Bagley hasn’t lived up to expectations, but this deal gives him an opportunity to do so while also giving the Kings a backup point guard in Tyrese Maxey.
The Kings beginning anew with Simmons would be the crown gem. Simmons is a three-time All-Star with Defensive Player of the Year intangibles, while Tyrese Haliburton had a great rookie season. Haliburton may play second guard with Simmons, or he might be dangled for a different role. Maxey, if not, is a youthful piece that might be relocated. In any case, it would be a crucial component in the rebuilding of the Kings.
Bradley Beal is on his way to the Golden State Warriors.
Andrew Wiggins, James Wiseman, Juan Toscano-Anderson, and a 2022 first-round pick were traded for Bradley Beal.
The Warriors are often cited in these discussions because they have the financial means to make a significant move. Andrew Wiggins is a good player with a reasonable deal. James Wiseman is a former No. 1 recruit in the league who is now in his second season. The Warriors may acquire a superstar to pair with Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green if these two headline any deal.
Consider what might happen if the Warriors brought Beal to San Francisco. It would no longer be the “Splash Bros.” The “Splash Brothers” or the “Three Splash Amigos” would have to be the answer. Someone out there has a more interesting name, but you get the idea. Three of the top overall shooters from the previous decade would be on the same squad. Not to mention that it would put the 2021 scoring leader in the same group as Beal’s runner-up.
It’s hazardous to have two thirty-point scorers on the same squad. The Warriors would become the Western Conference favorites as a result of this deal, perhaps overtaking the Los Angeles Lakers. On defense, the outside presence that these guys would provide would send defenders into a frenzy. Also, both Curry and Beal have incredible range. This team has the potential to be the greatest overall offensive team the Warriors have ever had, and Kevin Durant was previously a member of the team.
In terms of the Wizards, Beal is in the last year of his contract, so if the club doesn’t win games, his trade worth will be discussed often. If you’re Washington, you’re hoping to receive something in return. Wiggins is a 20-point scorer who improved his defense last season. Given that Montrezl Harrell is also in a contract year, Wiseman is the center of the future. The first-round selection may not be valuable, but it is a bonus. Overall, this would be an entertaining squad to watch shoot in Golden State, while Washington could start their complete rebuild with only a few components.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed CJ McCollum.
Kevin Love, Collin Sexton, and a 2022 first-round pick were traded for CJ McCollum and Anfernee Simmons in a package deal.
The Trail Blazers are mired in a tumultuous scenario, while the Cavaliers have the league’s worst three-year outlook of any team. After the trade deadline, Portland is still unsure whether Damian Lillard will be on the club. Many of us had assumed he’d passed away by now. He is still on the team, but considering Portland’s competitive mentality, he may be on his way out shortly.
If Portland wants to retain him, they’ll have to improve their team’s talent. The pairing of Lillard and CJ McCollum has reached the end of its usefulness. Outside of one trip in the Conference Finals, the two have a long history of first-round playoff exits. The Trail Blazers may go young by attempting to sign Collin Sexton, who is believed to be available for trade. Sexton, 22, is coming off a season in which he scored 24.3 points per game. McCollum is eight years his senior and has a 23.1 point per game average.
If Lillard departs, Portland will have a young core talent to work with. Maybe the club can persuade him that Lillard and Sexton have the potential to be as good as Chris Paul and Devin Booker. Kevin Love seems to have some juice left in the tank. What’s more enticing is that his contract will expire in 2022-2023, allowing the club to sign a top free agent. Lillard will be 33 years old at the time, with much to offer.
In terms of Cleveland, this eliminates the Love contract, returns at least a draft pick for Sexton, and allows the club to trade McCollum to another team. McCollum’s chances of staying in Cleveland for the next two years are slim. In the worst-case scenario, the two come to an agreement on a buyout, which would be even better for Cleveland’s cap problems. In order to build around Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley, the Cavaliers would have to go out and acquire a guard on the open market or wait until the following draft.
